Remember who you are..

Remember who you are..
We all have come across that phrase at some point in our life, most of us first heard the phrase from the movie ‘The Lion King’, when Mufasa’s spirit showed up to Simba and uttered those words.
The phrase “Remember who you are” has different meanings to each and every one of us, I will just express how, I, understood the phrase.
Well, obviously Simba knew ‘who he was’, the Lion prince of what what (forgot the name of the land πŸ˜) Land. But to understand the phrase we first need to understand at which phase of Simba’s life did Mufasa find him.
Simba witnessed his Father (Mufasa) being murdered by his uncle (Skye), then Skye threatened/lied to Simba, that the reason his father died was because of him and he was going to tell the whole village that. Then, the young scared Simba decided to run away from the village to stay in the ‘wild’ foreign land.
While at the wilderness, he met Pumba πŸ—and Timon πŸΏ, two carefree animals, living for the moment, no stress, no worry about life problems, tackling each day as it comes, Hakuna Matata.
He became friends with Pumba and Timon, learned how to survive away from the safety of his royal home. He learned the way of life and survival according to Timon and Pumba, he learned how to hunt for insects and bugs πŸ›πŸž (yes, a whole lion hunting insects)
Don’t get me wrong, Timon & Pumba were good friends to Simba at that stage of his life. They played a good role and taught him life lessons which he wouldn’t have learned if he was at his safe royal home. They took him out of his “shell” and taught him how to ‘Live’...
Well, enough about that, y’all have watched the movie (I hope so)
So, the phrase “Remember who you are” meant Simba needs to remember his values, responsibilities, honour and pride that he has as the “King of the jungle”
In life, we all have moments were we are ‘lost’, were we lose touch with who we really are. We get into these avatars we have created to fit in with the world. We then adopt certain values, way of life and lifestyles that we learn from Timon & Pumba-s we meet in this journey of life. We adopt things which our true-self know that they are not for us, and we just adapting to survive and to fit in.
Never feel bad for un-becoming the version of yourself that does not serve you anymore, the version that doesn’t have your best interest for you and your future.
Never feel guilty for setting boundaries, protecting your peace and mental health.
Self care is important.
Take care of yourself.
Who are you, when no one is around?
-Yes, that’s who you really are, that’s the person you need to listen to, the person you need to reconnect with.
If you can tell the world who you are and what you believe in, without hesitation, then you are truly happy with yourself.
..and always, Remember who you are..

  1. That "who are you, when no one is around?" Really had me thinking.
When I am by myself,I'm the total opposite of who I am when surrounded by people. The facade is hard to keep on or maintain.I sometimes feel like I'm losing myself.
The things we do to keep up appearances,mxm..often to our own detriment
